ABOUT OUR CLUB
The Barrie Garden Club was founded in 1874 as the Barrie Horticultural Society. A summary of the activities during the first 100 years is available. The year 2024 marked the 150th year of its existence and this was recognized in the Autumn 2024 issue of the Ontario Horticultural Association's newsletter, Trillium.
The objectives of the Club are to provide leadership and to assist in the promotion of education and interest in all areas of horticulture and related environmental issues. Through Club-sponsored projects and initiatives, the Club is dedicated to the beautification of the community. Our Constitution & By-Laws can be viewed here. Everyone 18+ is welcome to join the Club to learn about gardening, to network with like-minded people, and to be involved in the Club’s local gardening initiatives. This is achieved through invited speakers at monthly meetings, arranged special events, and informative newsletters.
The Club is a member of District 16 of the Ontario Horticultural Association.
Membership is available on an annual calendar basis for $20 ($35 for family unit at same civic address). Guests are welcome to attend meetings at a cost of $5 per meeting, payable on entry. If you wish to join the Club, click to the membership form.
Membership supports the Club initiatives in Barrie's gardening community through many volunteer opportunities and allows connection with like-minded gardeners at our meetings, events, and workshops.

There are many occasions to hear from the informative speakers at our monthly meetings. At certain meetings, there are opportunities to share the best of your garden by participating for FREE in our flower shows. The Club meetings are held at the Army, Navy, and Air Force facility located at 52 Morrow Road in Barrie on the first Tuesday of the month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
Members receive informative newsletters with up-to-date activities, seasonal information, items of local interest and much more. Details about special events, i.e., community volunteer opportunities, seminars, and special events, are communicated at meetings, and through this website, Facebook, Instagram, and newsletters. Many possibilities exist to share your knowledge, experience, and excess plants, seeds, and bulbs with other members.
